kooky zucch-y.

mmm ... zucchini bread. vegan zucchini bread, to be exact- with chunks of carrot, apple, and walnut!

it's a big week for cakes! three orders, so far (the week's not over yet!)- and everything from vegan, to gluten free, to diabetic. that's right! have a loved one with a special diet? teatree can bake-a nice cake-a for you!

looking forward to 'taste of the danforth' (we'll be selling twoonie cupcakes)- as well as the mosaic/dine.to food festival happening for the first time ever on this end of the danforth! there will be fixed menus at all your favourite restaurants, and various events happening throughout danforth east for two weeks in september! more details to follow about that one ...

see ya soon!

gluten free brunch options!

hey everyone!

i just wanted to mention that now that i carry gluten free bread, a celiac can now have the teatree combo on our brunch!

that's: one gluten free spiced pancake, one banana french toast on gluten free bread, and two eggs for only $6.99! (which is one killer brunch for people with gluten sensitivities!)

also, for the same reason, people who have intolerances to egg, lactose, AND gluten now have a brunch option as well: the vegan banana smoothie french toast on gluten free bread (featured in the pic)!

see you next weekend!

teatree cake!

robert (one of my super fantastic volunteers) needed a cake for a family lunch tomorrow, so i told him that i would make him one!

and this isn't vanity, i swear! i asked him if he would like me to write anything and he said, "write teatree"! he chose a vegan strawberry vanilla cake, to try and outdo some of the desserts that have been previously brought to this event. the middle icing is pink like the 'good luck' cake, dyed with raspberries and blueberries! i really like the look of the fruit dyed icings- they have a beautifully authentic colour, and i like the fact that you can see the seeds and stuff.

and i can use this image for something, too! put it on the front of my cake catalogue, perhaps ...

hope everyone enjoys it, robert!

nice cake, pretty cake ...

my cakes may be tasty, but pretty? not usually.

i like that homemade look. you know, that deliciously sloppy design that's around a fourth grader's skill set; bizarre colours and tastes mixed together; a cake that looks so moist, it could fall over if you look at it the wrong way. yes! but this cake is simple, delicate looking, and clean! i can do it- i have proof!

it's vegan chocolate raspberry, with fruit dyed raspberry icing in the middle! a unique combination, i must say- but still! this cake will satisfy at least two of the five senses. well, it's smells good too- so let's say three.

best sandwiches on the danforth!

hey y'all.

a lady came in today and said that she googled 'best sandwiches on the danforth', and teatree came up! turns out, it's true. teatree is listed on urbanspoon's best sandwich list for the danforth.

yes, it's probably just like saying that teatree is the best vegan/vegetarian/gluten free place on the danforth- duh, it's the only place. but, still! i like that people can google things and teatree will come up. just leave it up to the google gods, i always say! it's true, i always say that.

one for you, one for me, one for you, one for me ...

vegan vanilla cupcakes with vegan vanilla buttercream. i have died and gone to heaven.

i'm trying out a new recipe- as much as i am a fan of vanilla cake, my recipe has never been quite perfect. or maybe i just have higher standards because i love white cake so much! either way, i've really nailed my vegan chocolate cake recipe, so i thought i'd take a cue from that.

i decided to swap the coffee i use for the chocolate, with fresh lemon juice. and instead of adding the usual chocolate cookie crumbs, i went out and bought some vanilla cookies and tried grinding those! the result: dy-no-mite (with a capital die, as in, i am prepared to)! we'll see how they age, but holy lord, are they good.

i'm contemplating having a second!

a double whammy for tara lou!

first of all: cool name. second of all: best mom ever.

the first is a vegan raspberry vanilla lemon cake, decorated for a beach themed party! her mom is going to add all kinds of little palm trees, chairs, and umbrellas, so the rest is just an empty sand canvas. i made the chocolate medallion myself, though! very exciting. it was starting to melt very quickly when i was trying to shove it in the sand, but otherwise turned out great. get that sucker in the fridge, mama!

and the second is my much requested vegan cookies and cream cake! very messy dirty design. it reminds me of a mud cake a kid would make out of real dirt! loves it. and honestly, this cake is phenomenal. sooo good.

happy birthday tara lou! (third time's a charm.)
